The CONNECT series consists of multiple, functional sculptures in the form of traditional chandeliers. They are made of recycled bike parts.
Los Angeles based artist, Carolina Fontoura Alzaga is an artist with a strong desire for repurposing castoff materials and exploring socio-political themes. Her lifelong movement between spaces and cultures are what influences her work.
The CONNECT series, her latest collection, are subversive objects which she illustrates are a way to “challenge the aesthetics of wealth by visually contrasting the classic elegance of the candelabrum with the newfound elegance of discarded, mechanical bicycle parts.” As objects are made from existing materials you can see how they challenge the necessity of the new.
