BibiMichèle ‘Confronting Time’
Bibi van der Velden engages in artistic endeavours with her mother Michèle Deiters under the name BibiMichèle. Their most recent work, ‘Confronting Time’, is an exploration of time in all its multifaceted complexity.
The exhibition explores perspectives of time; time past, time eternal, time perceived, time frozen, time shared and so on, influenced by its inevitability and transience. ‘Confronting Time’ comprises of a series of mixed-media artworks and installations where the viewer is confronted with themselves through reflection and abstracted traditional forms applied through contemporary materials.
An odd mix of darkness and light, the sculptures and artworks encompass an otherworldly feeling. One feels as if they are looking deep into some kind of void, where time stops momentarily and we can confront the issue that faces us all – time, and its end.
The artists themselves had this to say about ‘Confronting Time’.
“We capture and freeze moments in time…” (Bibi)
“…to first confront the viewer then provoke them to reflect on the many facets of ‘real’ and perceived time.” (Michèle)
