Dark smoky theatrical makeup matched the whimsical creations and bold messages in the Chanel Haute Couture SS13 collection.
The runway took place in a pine forest that was created underneath the glass dome in Paris’s Grand Palais.
The collection – featuring a diverse colour palette that ranged from black with blood red flowers to soft ivory and subtle pink – showcased a range of theatrical dresses, iconic Chanel suits and gowns which featured intricate beading and lavish additions. Lagerfeld’s flair was evident in this collection with the addition of leather thigh high boots in black, gold and lace-like.
The show concluded with a statement – two models wearing bridal looking gowns accompanied by a young boy who looked like a ring bearer. This left many people wondering whether Lagerfeld had made a political statement and given his approval to same-sex marriage amid a very turbulent social environment in France.
