Paris Photo Los Angeles

Paris Photo Los Angeles, the inaugural United States edition of the renowned Paris art fair, today commences its public program, ‘Sound and Vision.’

Paris Photo was created in 1996 and is dedicated solely to historical and contemporary photography, taking place annually in Paris and Los Angeles. The two locations contrast the unique cultural environments of the cities, bringing together the different trends in photography.

Curated by Douglas Fogle, ‘Sound and Vision’ focuses on featuring dialogue between artists who work in photography and moving image media, through a range of talks and side events. The program covers not only the creative practice of image making, but also elements such as photojournalism.

Frieke Janssens’ ‘Smoking Kids’ series explores the resurgence of the allure associated with smoking, at Catherine Edelman Gallery.

Massimo Vitali, Italian contemporary photographer, is renowned for his large colour prints depicting the crowded beaches and shorelines of the Mediterranean Sea, at Brancolini Grimaldi Gallery.

Michael Jang’s images are allegories of particular points in time, capturing iconic personalities including David Bowie, at Stephen Wirtz Gallery.

Malcolm Browne is the journalist behind the famous image, ‘Burning Monk’, the photograph became a symbol of Vietnam in turmoil, at Daniel Blau Gallery.

Seydou Keïta is a self-taught portrait photographer from Mali; André Magnin organised his first international exhibitions during the 1990’s, at Magnin-A Gallery.

Paris Photo Los Angeles takes place from Friday 26 April until Sunday 28 April 2013 at Paramount Pictures Studios, Los Angeles, US.
