Bottega Veneta SS14: Guided by Materials

Bottega Veneta explores the possibilities of material and volume for their SS14 collection. The collection ranges in proportion, but shares a singular femininity and modernity.

This season features a fabric created by the House, woven of nearly equal parts cotton and copper thread, resulting in a material with a unique aesthetic. There are no prints in the collection; however the idea of print is achieved through the technique of embroidery and swatching, meticulously crafted and artfully applied, to create compelling texture as well as a multi-dimensional effect.

From necklaces and brooches to bracelets and belts, the range is simultaneously architectural and organic. Drawing inspiration from the idea of a monocle, the jewellery of the season features rock crystal; circular in shape and varied in size. Top-handled frame bags in lizard, shiny madras, cotton tweed or crocodile provide structure and contrast to the season’s relaxed draping.

“The collection is about freshness, both in terms of material and technique,” says Creative Director Tomas Maier. “I was interested in allowing the fabric to take the lead, serving as a guide to the possibilities of what we would be able to achieve.”

Bottega Veneta’s SS14 collection was presented at Milan Fashion Week.
