Control Bear

Control Bear is a project with a distinct twist of humour, which extends the traditional notion of a Japanese character toy into a piece of art. Control Bear launches its first concept store opening in Tokyo this week.

Control Bear has gained many fans for the black humor shown through the image of a pure and sweet bear holding its own head. While the bear appears to be sweet, the artist’s message is not as innocent and suggests, as it encourages individuals to “be strong willed, do not be controlled by others or follow what others expect to you to do.”

The Tokyo based concept store will offer unique merchandise to match the seasons and collaborations with artist’s active both in Japan and overseas. The pilot edition of Control Bear’s video project, will premier in the store and will include the collaboration work with fashion brand, Nozomi Ishiguro.

Nagatake Uehara, who started his enterprise in 2007 with the theme “stronger, sweeter, and more beautiful”, is the designer of Control Bear and the concept store.

Control Bear’s concept store, ‘Control Bear STORE TOKYO’, will open on Saturday 7 September 2013 at Laforet Harajuku, Tokyo, Japan.
