Hello, My Name is Paul Smith

‘Hello My Name is Paul Smith’ will take visitors on a journey through Paul Smith’s world. The exhibition reveals a world of creation, inspiration, collaboration, wit and beauty.

Referencing Smith’s influences and fashion designs, the exhibition charts the rise of one of the world’s leading fashion brands. Smith’s intuitive steps into fashion have seen him progress from managing a friend’s fashion store to having his own label and showing seasonally in Paris and London.

A highlight of the exhibition is a recreation of Smith’s first shop in Byard Lane, Nottingham. Measuring a humble three-metres-by-three-metres the space will allow visitors to immerse themselves in the beginnings of the brand. The exhibition will also include a recreation of Paul’s personal office, containing a myriad of books and objects that are a continual source of inspiration. Projections, audio and film clips from fashion shows and behind-the-scenes will reveal the inner workings and influences of the Paul Smith brand.

Coinciding with the exhibition, is the release of the title ‘Hello, my name is Paul Smith: Fashion and other stories’. The publication features a selection of drawings, photographs and essays that provide a further insight into Smith’s creative process.

‘Hello, My Name is Paul Smith’ is on display at the Design Museum, London from Friday 15 November 2013 until Sunday 9 March 2014.
