Dans La Ligne de Mire

The exhibition ‘Dans La Ligne de Mire’ presents a selection of French contemporary jewellery, exploring the changing role of the art form today.

Fifty French jewellers and silversmiths have been invited to show their recent creations, set against the backdrop of Medieval, Renaissance, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and contemporary works. The panorama of the exhibition highlights the progression of jewellery design. Today contemporary pieces are often used as site for experimentation, questioning the body and social behaviours, rather than for ornament.

The pieces come from a diverse range of contexts; some are the result of artistic investigation, others are from the realms of Haute Couture.

High-end jewellery from Maison Hermés, Maison Boucheron and Chanel Joaillerie featured alongside contemporary artists. Along with finished pieces the exhibition documents the work of the jewellers through their photographs, videos, documentaries and advertising campaigns.

‘Dans La Ligne de Mire’ is on display at Les Art Decoratifs, Paris, France until Sunday 2 March 2014.
