Tokyo Fashion Week Ready to Wear AW15/16

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week TOKYO (MBFWT) has commenced to bring to life another season of innovative and edgy collections.

Renowned for functioning as a launch pad for up-and-coming, young designers, MBFWT showcases a fresh range of styles ranging from the traditional to the avant-garde. Designers such as Sacai and conceptual label Anrealage, which showcased collections in Paris last year, are examples of young designers that have made their break-through born from Japan’s most prominent fashion week.

Tokyo prides itself on its global reputation for design, quality and creativity. These elements will be showcased throughout the week through a number of events and installations. A particularly interesting event is This is My Partner vol. 2 which picks up from last year’s fashion week event. This project focuses on the craftsmen who are involved in the textile industry and highlights the deep relationship of trust, and the chemistry between designers and the craftsmen who work on their pieces. This is My Partner vol. 2 introduces craftsmen as indispensable partners of designers in their creations. The objective is for the designers participating in the MBFWT to promote the technical capabilities of these talented craftsmen to the world giving insight into a side of fashion production, which is rarely revealed.

Among the various installations and presentations set to take place during the week is AD-Dressing: Dialogues in Fashion and Architecture. The project presents fashion labels from Austria as well as local labels with a display specially designed for the project by Tokyo based architect Ryo Abe. By presenting Austrian fashion AD-Dressing will initiate a discussion on the developments in and across the fields of applied art, architecture and fashion design in the contemporary world.
