St Germain: Real Blues

French musician St Germain is preparing to release his highly anticipated first full-length album in 15 years titled Real Blues.

St Germain’s first full-length album, Boulevard was released to critical acclaim in 1995. It combined audio elements from a diverse range of genres, from jazz to blues and nu-house, including samples from the late Gil Scott Heron. This classic album continued St Germain’s distinctive sound, and was described as riding the line between deep and downtempo French house and acid jazz.

Five years later, he released Tourist, including the seminal track Rose Rouge, a sensual track that has since soundtracked countless slothful sunsets. Tourist went on to sell over three million copies worldwide.

St Germain’s music is well known to have a French touch, which blends harmoniously to create his signature mix of innovative music. Creating its mark on the world’s stages this music is destined to be passed through the ages, confirming itself as an icon.

Real Blues, the title track from the album, is the first single to be released from the album and features the same level of incredible musicianship that delighted listeners in the past. The track, including a posthumous sample from Lightnin’ Hopkins, an iconic American country-blues singer famous for his raw vocals, proves to the world that St Germain continues to produce his deeply emotive music.

Listeners are introduced to his imaginative juxtaposition of nu-house and traditional African sounds, which features traditional Malian instruments like the Kora, balafon and n’goni. The amalgamation is powerful. Mingling with electric guitars, pianos, saxophones and electric loops, it is obvious that St Germain is a musical force that transcends time.

Real Blues is set for release on Friday 9 October 2015.
