Brazil 45s: Vinyl Releases

As the world looks towards Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, we look to the latest in a series of vinyl releases that celebrate the golden era of Brazilian music.

Brazil 45s are a series of vinyl releases that celebrate Brazilian music of the 1960s and 1970s. Pressed onto 7” vinyl, the releases document the musical history of the vibrant nation, making rare releases accessible to a wider audience. The two latest in the series – Brazil 45s #7 and Brazil 45s #8 – are a mixture of genres, reflecting the diversity of Brazilian music of the time.

Brazil 45s #7 brings together the works of Os Brazões and Tim Maia. Side A includes a cover of the Jorge Ben classic Carolina Carol Bela, performed in a psychedelic style by Os Brazões, while Side B holds Maia’s track É Necessário, which first appeared on his 1977 LP Som Livre and has never been release on 7”.

Brazil 45s #8 focuses solely on Rio de Janeiro-based artist Wilson Simonal de Castro, who recorded 20 albums throughout his career. This release features Simonal de Castro’s tracks Silva Lenheira and Zazueira.

Brazil 45s #7 and Brazil 45s #8 will both be released on Monday 2 June 2014 and are available via Mr Bongo.
