Ai Weiwei: Monograph

Taschen has released the first comprehensive monograph on the life and work of Chinese artist Ai Weiwei.

Compiled in close collaboration with Weiwei himself and with direct access to his own archives, the title explores the artist’s particular brand of expression and activism over more than 700 pages of images and text.

The book includes custom features such as chapter openers designed by the artist in traditional paper-cut style and silk scarf wrapping. The image on the scarf is based on a detail from Weiwei’s work Straight, a reference to the Sichuan earthquake of 2008. To accompany the imagery is a selection of essays and an interview with Weiwei.

The title is available via Taschen in a limited and numbered edition of 1,000 copies, each is signed by the artist. An art edition is also available in a limited run of 100 and is comprised of a hardcover volume presented on a marble sculpture wrapped in a silk scarf. The limited edition retails for GBP£900 (AUD$1624) and the art edition for GBP£9000 (AUD$16,265).
