Fabio Biavaschi: Fringe Furniture

Italian born, Australian-based furniture designer Fabio Biavaschi creates pieces that are resourceful and fun.

Biavaschi’s first collection was launched in 2011 and was formed entirely from cardboard. Titled GLOOOK the collection was conceived with the inclusion of finer details such as the branding. It is this collection that propelled Biavaschi into the industry.

Biavaschi has since based himself in various locations around Australia. Particularly inspired by the more rural parts of the country, he began to create artistic figures fusing different objects made of wood and rusted tractor metal parts. These experiments grew to become a complete collection titled CHALFORD.

This week the furniture designer will launch a new piece as part of his ongoing collection, MEK. Made from light ash veneered plywood, the material is crafted from wood and painted on one side. A selection of colourful wing nuts, hold the pieces in the MEK collection together. The MEK stool (MEK_s01) will launch at Fringe Furniture, an event in Melbourne, Australia that takes place as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
