The AIPAD Photography Show New York

The AIPAD Photography Show New York is celebrating its 35th edition. Presented by The Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD), the show is recognised as the longest-running and leading exhibition dedicated to the photographic medium.

The fair will be representing 89 fine art photography galleries from across the US, Canada, Europe, Asia and South America. This year will see new exhibitors join the show including Les Filles Du Calvaire, Paris and See+ Gallery, Beijing.

We bring you our picks from the show.

An array of significant portraits will be on view at AIPAD including Burt Stern’s iconic images of Marilyn Monroe at Staley-Wise Gallery, New York. Man Ray’s 1930 photograph of Andre Breton will be on display at Hyperion Press Ltd., New York and portraits of Chet Baker and Miles Davis by Carol Reiff, one of the few female jazz photographers of 1950’s New York, will be shown at Michael Dawson Gallery, Los Angeles.

In a different field images from protests and war related events will also be amongst the variable mix of the AIPAD photograph exhibitions. The events of World War II will be exhibited at Gary Edwards Gallery, Washington and photographs of last year’s protests in Ferguson, Missouri covered by Whitney Curtis will be exhibited at Monroe Gallery of Photography, Santa Fe.

Lisa Sette Gallery, Phoenix will present an exhibition of Luis González Palma’s work, which through portraits that border to magical realism captures the soul of people with Mayan descent and other mixed heritage in Guatemala.

A noteworthy exhibition by Japanese photographer Katsumi Watanabe will be on display at Taka Ishii Gallery, Tokyo, Paris and New York. His photographs centre on bar hostesses, drag queens, and gangsters in 1960s and 70s Shinjuki, an area in Tokyo which lays claim to the busiest train station in the world.

Alongside the photographic exhibitions, a range of short films, talks and panel discussions featuring prominent leaders in the world of fine art photography, will be presented.

The AIPAD Photography Show New York is set to take place at Park Avenue Armory, New York City in the US from Thursday 16 April – Sunday 19 April 2015.
