Mix the City

Musician and video artist Kutiman has collaborated with 12 musicians in a project titled Mix the City, which allows people to explore Tel Aviv through sound.

Kutiman is known for the remixes he posts online, where he blends the sights, sounds and music of the cities and countries through which he travel. In a similar manner he explores musical culture in the project Mix the City by filming its musicians, then creating a mix that gives a snapshot of that city.

Now the artist invites people to go on an interactive musical journey through his hometown Tel Aviv, by creating a remix of the sights, sounds and music of Tel Aviv. Through a set of 12 filmed tracks performed by musicians living in the city, the interactive online website allows users to create their own interpretation of Tel Aviv.

To be able to record the musicians in a way that any combination made would work, Kutiman moved slightly away from his funk and soul background and towards a more techno style. This framework was made to allow different samples to match together seamlessly.

The project was co-commissioned by the British Council and The Space.
