Blunt Umbrellas X Michael C. Hsiung

Blunt Umbrellas has released an artistic limited edition umbrella in collaboration with international artist and illustrator Michael C. Hsiung.

The collaboration saw Hsiung create a series of exclusive designs, with each portraying a different character protected by a sturdy Blunt Umbrella. In a humoristic twist the characters are not protected from rain only, but from aspects of the world, which they fear the most. Playing on fun stereotypes the designs include a hippy character who is afraid of job interviews and razors, and a TNT character who is afraid of candles, lighters and matches.

A first of its kind for Blunt Umbrellas, the collaboration combines practicality through its trademark functionality and design, with creativity through a unique and modern aesthetic supplied by Hsiung.

The collection was inspired by the thought that art should not be limited to canvases. Hsiung who particularly supports the idea that everyday objects can and should be transformed into inspiring pieces, was excited by the idea of using an umbrella as a canvas. “Something so useful does not have to be boring,“ says Hsiung.

The LA-based artist, who is particularly well known for his contemporary take on recognisable characters from Nordic myths and fairytales, has long been known for his ink drawings. Recently had his works featured in the movie 22 Jump Street and at the Vincent Price Art Museum.

The collection is produced in a limited edition of 1000 umbrellas worldwide and is available for purchase at the Blunt Umbrellas website.
