Samm Henshaw: The Sound Experiment

Samm Henshaw’s long awaited debut EP The Sound Experiment is set for release, promising the rise of a new soul legend.

Twenty year old, Samm Henshaw has stirred the world with a sound that brings back the glory of past soul and gospel with a captivating contemporary twist.

It is not only his soulful rasp or boundless emotion, much older than his age, that has charmed music lovers from across the world. Neither is it the fascinating span of his vocal range alone. It is a magical combination of it all with a harmonious layering of vocals, simple instruments, choral harmonic background voices, and a slight reggae twang that appears now and then in his Southern soul phrasing. The result is music that leads the mind to a spacious country fieldscape with porch singing.

Giving the world a taste of what to expect from the upcoming EP, Henshaw has recently released three singles from the upcoming album: Only Wanna Be With You, Redemption, and Better.

While Only Wanna Be With You perfectly demonstrates Henshaw’s unique vocal talents; Redemption forms a beautiful part soul ballad, part work song that reminds the listener of older times and church music; and Better showcases his talented ability to combine raw emotion with complementary harmony, leading to the characteristic melancholic feel of soul. Better also sees Henshaw expand on his already impressive vocal range, building layers of harmonies with himself over a beautiful combination of piano, soulful guitar and rhythmic snaps and clicks.

The Sound Experiment is set for release on Friday 17 July 2015.
