Dam-Funk: Invite the Lights

The epitome of funk music, Dam-Funk is making a strong return with Invite the Lights, his first album since the 2009 debut of Toeachizown, which revived the G-Funk era in all its glory.

The new album is Dam-Funk’s first fully realised effort with a concise vision spanning from the beginning to the end. Inspired by the trials and challenges of his personal and professional life, the album has a certain autobiographical feel.

While the album is his first in recent times, the Los Angeles based producer has been highly active, collaborating with artists including Snoop Dog and Steve Arrington and launching a series of EPs between 2010 and 2012.

Invite the Lights sees Dam-Funk make good use of his multi-instrumentalist talents by managing all the production himself. It makes good use of a wide range of prominent guest appearances including Snoop Dogg, Q-Tip, Flea, Ariel Pink, Junie Morrison, and Leon Sylvers III and IV.

Providing a taste of the upcoming album, Dam-Funk released the lead single We Continue, a track that recalls the vocal melody from Dam-Funk’s single Hood Pass Intact spiced up with an extra dose of banging bass, cascading synths and a Garry Shider-level guitar solo.

In all its aspects the single puts high expectations for the long-awaited album, which is set for release on Friday 4 September 2015. Invite the Lights is available for pre-order here.
