Piero Fornasetti: 100 Years of Practical Madness

To celebrate the centenary of Milanese artist Piero Fornasetti’s birth, the Triennale Design Museum, Milan presents an exhibition of the artist’s work. ‘100 Years of Practical Madness’ highlights Fornasetti’s distinctive creativity.

Painter, engraver, printer, designer, collector, stylist, refined craftsman art gallery manager and exhibition promoter, Fornasetti was an extremely rich and complex personality. Throughout Fornasetti’s career he was faced with the period’s prevailing rationalist view of functionality in architecture and design, yet his works are characterised by ornament. The exhibition pays tribute to Fornasetti’s role as an artist.

Fornasetti designed and manufactured approximately 13,000 objects and decorations. The exhibition includes more than 700 of his pieces, mostly from the extraordinary Fornasetti archive in Milan, curated by Barnaba Fornasetti, who still carries on his father’s work.

‘100 Years of Practical Maness’ runs from Wednesday 13 November 2013 – Sunday 9 February 2014 at the Triennale Design Museum, Milan.
