Reality Lab. Issey Miyake

Issey Miyake has collaborated with artist and designer Tokujin Yoshioka to create a space that evokes the experience of shopping in a laboratory. It is an addition to an original boutique, which was designed by Yoshioka in 2010.

The space, titled Reality Lab, utilises minimal materials and objects to generate an interior that verges on the clinical. The use of concrete alongside blue and green plinths brings in a cool palette for the space, with a particular choice in lighting.

The design plays with the concepts of ‘concealing’ and ‘revealing’ with glass used throughout, and garments appear to float as their hangers are hidden.

“Incorporating the trace of time cultivated in the space, the contrast between the texture of peeled wall and the futuristic coloured aluminium expresses contrast between history and future, said Tokujin Yoshioka.

The space offers a selection of the most innovative creations from Issey Miyake, including the recently released Homme Plissé collection, and the Issey Miyake series of IN-EI pleated lamps.

Reality Lab is located in the Aoyama neighbourhood in Tokyo, Japan.
