fluoro:
A retrospective

fluoro celebrates 2013.

In a significant shift of media for fluoro, 2013 saw fluoro relaunch, bringing the best elements of the award-winning magazine online in November. Characterised by an emphasis on design and images, fluoro allows viewing in a high-quality format.

fluoro is known for the way it’s high-end content is curated and presented. The selection of innovative creatives and brands with whom fluoro spoke with and featured throughout the year is an extensive array of the worlds best. From exploring the material diversity of iconic fashion designer Rick Owens to providing an insight into the luxury industry with renowned Frenchman Jean Marc Gady.

The notion of luxury was merged with fashion and street culture in a particularly innovative project from Antonio Brasko. The Montana Spray Can Concept took branding in new directions and saw luxury branding applied to a series of Montana Spray Cans. fluoro spoke to Brasko about the project.

Fashion collections from key brands often moved into the realms of art, with diverse applications of materials and using the runway as a mode of performance. Fashion Weeks from around the globe presented unique collections, including Alexander Wang’s first as Creative Director of Balenciaga. While through the windows of fluoro’s Melbourne Headquarters, we watched the neighbouring heritage listed 140 Flinders Lane building transform, bringing a little bit of Paris to Melbourne with the arrival of Chanel.

Art Galleries were also eager to explore fashion within a gallery context. fluoro gave an insight into the art-deco fashion of the 1920s at the National Gallery of Victoria. While a retrospective of the unique career of Azzedine Alaïa opened the renovated Palais Galliera, Paris after four years of renovations.

On a global scale a number of major exhibitions pushed the boundaries of modes of presentation, challenging the way art is interacted with. Yayoi Kusama’s immersive exhibition ‘Infinite Obsession’ travelled to Rio de Janeiro’s Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, Brazil and fluoro spoke with Philip Larratt-Smith, Head Curator of the exhibition, about the charm of the polka dot and the artist’s compelling personal story. fluoro’s coverage of the Venice Biennale, a major event for the year, was a notable focus. Providing a deeper insight into the Slovenian Pavilion fluoro spoke to Jasmina Cibic about her piece.

fluoro continues to encourage a deeper thought by evoking emotion through a distinct collection of works, images and text. Subscribers are now able to access advanced news into a world where art, fashion, architecture, history and innovation come together; exclusive subscriber-only giveaways; and a first-look into pre-released fluoroOriginal pieces on a monthly basis via fluoroNotice.
