Alessi: eat.it
Eating and drinking are a time to come together, celebrate and live. Alessi is setting the table with a unique new set of cutlery designed by Dutch architect Wiel Arets titled ‘eat.it’.
In his first cutlery set for Alessi, Arets highlights his ability to extract the essence of the shape from objects. Linear yet not minimal, the ‘eat.it’ project originated from a symmetrical design, where the shape of the handle and the upper part are equivalent and opposite, like the mathematical symbol for infinity.
eat.it is made of 18/10 stainless steel and includes a complete dining set. The set also features an original spaghetti serving fork, a butter knife and a spoon with a long handle for lattes or cold drinks. The unique shape of the cutlery suggests an unconventional way to lay the table, with easy-to-arrange pieces that can even be stacked together.
“Eating and drinking connects; engagement in both entails celebrating life. Appropriately, this cutlery embodies a practical approach to the art of cooking and enjoying food and drink alongside family and friends. It is absent of any ornamentation, and instead intends to embody and impart a modern mode of living, the definition of which has been left open to its users. Reductive and not minimal; elegant though far from fragile; and terse while simultaneously inviting; it is meant for both everyday use and the formality required of small gatherings. Highly flexible, it is chameleon-like in the anticipation of its immediate surroundings and can adapt to these as use requires,” said Arets.
