Nike: Creativity in Sport
The release of the Nike Magista Football boot highlights the brand’s ongoing innovation in sport.
The Magista boot marks the first time that Nike’s Flyknit technology has been applied to a football boot, previously proven in running and basketball. Nike Flyknit defies conventional shoe manufacturing processes by creating an engineered upper woven from special yarns. The Magista boot redefines the concept of how football boots look and perform.
The boot was unveiled by FC Barcelona playmaker Andres Iniesta in Spain, who worked with Nike on its design. Four years of research and design saw Iniesta and German forward Mario Gotze provide feedback on their needs during a game. The result is a boot that is designed to enable creativity in a game where space is at a premium.
“Our aim at Nike has always been to meet the athlete’s particular performance demands and amplify his unique set of skills. Magista inherits that transformative history of design and innovation and supercharges it,“ comments Mark Parker, NIKE Inc. CEO and President.
“With Magista, we’ve designed a shoe that feels like an extension of the player’s body. This isn’t a boot that just goes on your foot, it’s a boot that works with your foot,” said Phil McCartney, VP of Sport Performance Footwear. “By eliminating distractions, players are free to unlock their potential and creativity.”
Collaborations are a large part of Nike’s DNA, seeking experts in their field to offer insight into how products are used, which guide their creation. Previously, when developing the Nike Sole for the Össur Flex-Run Nike turned to Össur, a leader in the orthopaedics industry and Paralympic World Record Holder Sarah Reinertsen.
Consumers can currently register interest online before pre-order on Tuesday 29 April 2014. The Nike Magista Football boot will be available for purchase at Nike stores around Australia from Thursday 22 May 2014 and will be priced at AUD$320.
