Gotye’s new album: Making Mirrors
The enigmatic entity known as Gotye (aka Wally de Backer) returns to grace the music scene with ‘Making Mirrors’, his genre-defying mix of 60s exotica, classic RnB, spacey Fairlight-pop, afrobeat jams and gentle Omnichord-backed confessionals.
‘Making Mirrors’ is the follow up to his platinum-selling 2006 release ‘Like Drawing Blood’, which launched this star well into the stratosphere on the backs of singles like ‘Learnalilgivinanlovin’ and ‘Heart’s a Mess’.
Gotye brings the seductive vocals of newcomer Kimbra onto the lead single ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’. With its intense visuals and vocals, the song and the video have become major talking points in the global music scene. However, this is only the beginning. From obscure outback sound installations such as the Winton Musical Fence, the Orchestral Symphonizer of the Lowrey Cotillion electronic organ, or an 18th century pump harmonium, Gotye mines the rich fields of musical oddities to come up with something truly fascinating and inspiring.
‘Making Mirrors’ is due for release on Friday 19 August 2011.
