Red Light District Pilot Projects
Proposing an environment where tradespeople, entrepreneurs and brothel owners mix in equal amounts: welcome to the new Red Light District in Amsterdam.
Red Light District Pilot Projects are proposing new architectural models of ‘vertical mixing’ that facilitates a sustainable environment during urban renewal without wiping out the users with lower financial capacities. This would allow more cultural entrepreneurs and business starters to mingle with the existing tradespeople in Amsterdam’s Red Light District. The aim: to stimulate more cultural diversity.
A large scale video mapping model of the Red Light District will be presented to demonstrate the urban research that was supported by the Stimuleringfonds voor Architectuur during 2009-2011, showing different location-based proposals of vertically mixing new creative programs with the existing brothels and windows.
The Red Light District Pilot Projects will be exhibited from Friday 2 – Wednesday 7 December 2011 at Arcam Exhibitions, Amsterdam.
