A Modern Revival
The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) in Sydney, Australia, has always been a major cultural centre for contemporary art and creative learning. Now after an AUD$53 million redevelopment, MCA is bigger and better than ever.
With the updated architectural facades and interiors, MCA will continue on its path of showcasing the best in modern art. It is a driving force for modern international and Australian art, collecting and exhibiting the best works of today from artists the world over.
For the launch of the new MCA, the gallery has initiated a series of spectacular exhibitions, beginning with Marking Time, featuring major works by eleven artists from Europe, the USA, Brazil, Japan and Australia. In Marking Time, time is extended, made circular and wound backwards. In keeping with its theme, the exhibition unfolds over a 24-hour cycle. Some works come to life only at night, illuminating the Museum’s front lawn. Others materialise slowly during the course of the exhibition, revealed through the footsteps of visitors passing through the Museum foyer and stairwells.
