Sirens by Hush
Hush’s work is a sensory assault – a visual treat, a layering of colours and a fusion of anime, pop-infused imagery, graffiti and graphic design. ‘Sirens’ is the first solo exhibition in Australia by the UK-based artist, and will be on show at Metro Gallery from mid-May.
Fascinated by Asian graphic novels, and such artists as Roy Lichtenstein and Sir Peter Blake, Hush has developed a unique style that reaches a new climax in ‘Sirens’.
Hush’s new work fuses traditional Eastern art with Western traditions of action painting and graffiti. Each work is an explosion and exploration of movement and colour, with the delicate female forms caught amongst a maelstrom of whirling reds, blacks and ochres. Graffiti splayed across the canvases creates a further layer of chaos, yet each figure rests peacefully, seemingly content with their place in the madness.
‘Sirens’ will be showing at Metro Gallery, Armadale, Australia, from Monday 21 May to Saturday 9 June 2012.
