Pasotti Ombrelli
In the hands of designers Pasotti, the umbrella, generally thought of as a purely practical tool, has transformed into an elegant showpiece – not only to keep the rain away, but also to flaunt its pedigree and beauty in design.
Featuring elegant designs, fabrics, decorations and handles, Pasotti have exported their ‘Made in Italy’ pride to the entire world. In the countryside of Mantova in Castellucchio, Pasotti continues to produce high-quality designer umbrellas under a brand name that just passed the half century mark.
“The company was started in 1956” – explains the owner, Eva Giacomini – “and was founded by my mother, Ernesta Pasotti, who began producing ‘one of a kind’ umbrellas that she sold directly to the people, sometimes riding her scooter. Then, with my father Vittorio Giacomini, who mainly took care of sales, the company grew from a small artisan company to a large one with over one hundred employees.”
Giacomini continues, “We have a huge collection of designs, styles, handles and we also do private label. They are the result of the imagination and creativity of my parents first of all and today of my husband, Mauro Begotti. In addition to designs and fabrics we work on the handmade handles and on the trimming: from Swarovski crystals, sewn by hand to garnets, just to give two examples.”
The Pasotti Ombrelli range is currently on show during ‘Premiere Classe’ in Paris at the Jardin de Tuileries until Monday March 5 2012.
