I Am Eleven
I Am Eleven, the latest release from Melbourne filmmaker Genevieve Bailey, provides an insight into the world of 11 year old children from 15 different countries.
The documentary’s stars are asked a range of questions relating to love, war, global warming, music, terrorism, culture, family, happiness, religion and the future. The answers are honest, insightful and eye opening, and challenges the viewer to cast their mind back to their childhood and witness the innocence of life through the eyes of an 11 year old.
This film also explores the boundaries people face growing up in different parts of the world and how that impacts their ideas on life. Kimberley from the US wishes the weekend extended to four days rather than two and Vandana from India desires tools to build a house for herself and her family.
Eleven was the magic number chosen by Bailey as this was a time she noted feeling most carefree and happy in her life. She ponders the question “Do eleven year olds in today’s world still feel as she did at the age of eleven?”
I Am Eleven is currently screening as part of the 2012 Melbourne International Film Festival.
