Matthew Dear: Beams
MusicMatthew Dear once again discovers new ground with his fourth full-length studio album ‘Beams’.Recorded in his home studio, ‘Beams’ is a kaleidoscopic journey, in which Dear explores a strong lyrical presence and personal evolution as an artist. A suite of weird, wild and queasily optimistic rhythm-driven pop songs, ‘Beams’ proves why Dear has been labeled as one of pop music’s most captivating creative minds.
Migrating from Texas to Michigan as a teenager, Dear became inspired by the Detroit techno sound. Sharing this passion with Sam Valenti IV, whom Dear had met at parties, the two founded Ghostly International, a label dedicated to expanding their electronic production.
Now based in New York, Dear has worked with many established and innovative artists including The Chemical Brothers, The Postal Service, Hot Chip and The XX. Dear maintains four aliases as a DJ, producer, experimental pop artist and bandleader (Audion, Flase, Jabberjaw and Matthew Dear) straddling multiple musical worlds and belonging to none of them.
‘Beams’ will be released by Ghostly International on Monday 27 August, 2012.
