Little Black Dress
Charting the historic and contemporary significance of a singular sartorial phenomenon, ‘Little Black Dress’ explores the evolution of this ubiquitous piece.
For more than a century, the definitive yet democratic style of the little black dress has embodied the shifting social times of the modern world. Piecing together this evolution ‘Little Black Dress’ presents the works of significant designers who have shaped the journey of the garment.
Comprising of iconic pieces from fashion houses Chanel, Givenchy and Yves Saint Laurent, the exhibition displays a selection of modern works including Tom Ford’s FW 2011 collection (previously worn by Lady Gaga) and Prabal Gurung’s Fall 2011 collection (previously worn by Sarah Jessica Parker).
Savannah College of Art and Design Trustee André Leon Talley said “The exhibition highlights the strength of individualism, charting the evolution of the little black dress from its native definition of invariable propriety, to new and distinctly contemporary explorations of texture, tone and silhouette”.
‘Little Black Dress’ will exhibit until Sunday 27 January 2013 at the SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah, USA.
