Love Looks not with the Eyes
Lee Alexander McQueen (1969–2010) revolutionised the fashion industry and changed the way many of us viewed the creative mind behind the piece. ‘Love Looks not with the Eyes: McQueen’ the title by ‘image maker’ Anne Deniau, offers a behind-the-scenes insight into the creative mind and backstage style of McQueen.
Undeniably, McQueen’s design combined visionary aesthetics, emotional power, and extraordinary craft, was known for staging provocative shows that were as much performances as venues to display his creations.
Deniau was the only photographer allowed backstage by McQueen for 13 years, beginning in September 1997 and ending with the final show in March 2010. She “watched him from the inside” and captured key moments alongside McQueen. The journey of the title shows the diversity in his collections, the passion in his eyes while he was working backstage and finally the trust he had in Deniau.
She captured McQueen working with his close circle of collaborators including designer Sarah Burton, milliner Philip Treacy, jewelry designer Shaun Leane, and model Kate Moss.
“There’s a beauty, strength and fragility to everything Anne is doing” Sarah Burton, Creative Director, Alexander McQueen.
