White Night Melbourne
White Night Melbourne will transform the city of Melbourne, Australia into a cultural canvas, a performance stage and a creative playground.
Inspired by the Nuit Blanche phenomenon that began in Paris in 2002, White Night Melbourne is a dusk-till-dawn celebration of music, art, dining, theatre, fashion, film, design and performance. The event will see many of the streets turned into pedestrian thoroughfares and renowned cultural institutions simultaneously remaining open after dark.
Light projections will transform Melbourne’s iconic buildings and landmarks while Melbourne’s laneways will play host to live jazz, multimedia projections and pop-up performances.
Two of our selections:
Andy Warhol’s 13 Most Beautiful at ACMI: Consisting of three-minute 16mm reels of film, Warhol’s Screen test series captures the enigmatic personalities that floated through his infamous studio – the factory. These silent portraits capture a collection of beautiful and wonderfully textured moments, as the subjects simply sit in front of the camera and emote, or not, in some cases.
Dylan Mortarell’s Kerelan Touch Music: A multi-touch sonic interactive installation based on his work in the Kochi Muziris Biennale in India, will be installed in Campbell Arcade.
White Night Melbourne will run from 7pm on Saturday 23 March to 7am Sunday 24 March 2013.
