DADo Film Society Celebrates Oscar Niemeyer
The 2013 season of DADo film society will open this week with Oscar Niemeyer: A Vida E Um Sopro (Life is a Breath of Air).
Oscar Niemeyer was one of the most prolific 20th century modernist architects, known for the sensuous and seductive curved concrete featuring in many of his landmark buildings. The release of Oscar Niemeyer: A Vida E Um Sopro was made to coincide with his 100th birthday, and helped celebrate his long life dedication to architecture both in Brazil and overseas. The film explores his collaboration with Juscelino Kubitschek, the then president of Brazil, and his criticism from Bauhaus director Walter Gropius and Le Corbusier for building standardisation.
DADo is the film society of the Robin Boyd Foundation, celebrating the best in documentaries and films on architecture, design and urbanism. The society explores the relationship between film and the built environment to promote a wider community appreciation and engagement with design.
Robin Boyd Foundation has continued Robin Boyd’s, one of Australia’s most influential architects, commitment to introducing people to design and encouraging the wider community to understand the benefits of good design.
