Art Basel Hong Kong
Founded by gallerists in 1970, Art Basel has been a driving force in supporting the role that galleries play in the nurturing of artists. Hong Kong holds it’s premiere edition of the art show.
With the expansion into Hong Kong comes an increasing focus on Asia for the art show. Half of the participating galleries come from the Asia-Pacific region, highlighting Art Basel’s desire to build a cultural bridge between the long established Western artworld and the vibrant new scenes of the entire region.
Art Basel in Hong Kong will trace twelve decades of art history across four sectors: Galleries; Insights; Discoveries and Encounters. The ‘Galleries’ sector presents the world’s leading Modern and contemporary art galleries, while ‘Discoveries’ aims to showcase work by the next generation of talent.
Dedicated to presenting large-scale sculpture, ‘Encounters’ provides visitors with the opportunity to see works that transcend the traditional art fair stands. Developed specifically for the Hong Kong show, ‘Insights’ solely presents works of Asian origin.
