The Clock
The result of a fascination and obsession with the notion of time, Christian Marclay’s celebrated video installation ‘The Clock’ is a montage of cinematic history intricately matched with real time. It is on display at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
‘The Clock’ is composed of thousands of film clips that reference the time of day. Intricately edited into a 24-hour long montage the video piece matches real time minute for minute. Incorporating over 100 years of cinema, ‘The Clock’ takes viewers on a journey from car chases and bank heists to boardrooms and crime scenes. A brief glimpse of a watch, clock, sundial or person speaking the time creates narrative within the work and communicates the time to viewers.
Winning the Gold Lion at the 2011 Venice Biennale, Marclay’s acclaimed project, is the result of three years of work.
It is on display at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, USA until Sunday 2 June 2013.
