Learning Through Art
As a response to the elimination of art and music programs in New York City public schools, in the 1970’s, ‘Learning Through Art’ was founded. Today, the Guggenheim’s pioneering program has served over 150,000 children.
‘Learning Through Art’ places professional teaching artists in New York City public elementary schools where they develop art projects that teach students art skills and techniques. The program encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and ongoing collaborative investigation.
The results of the 2013 program are currently on display at the Guggenheim Museum in the exhibition, titled ‘A Year with Children.’ The drawings, prints, photographs, paintings and sculptures will be shown until Wednesday 19 June 2013.
