A new art Network
The City Gallery Wellington, New Zealand, presents the fascinating, funny and politically active world of Asian video art in the exhibition ‘Moving On Asia: Towards a New Art Network 2004-2013’.
The ‘Moving on Asia’ video art archive was established in 2004 and is contributed to by fifty curators. The growing collection includes artists from Australia, China, Pakistan, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Phillipines, Taiwan, Thailand, Sri-Lanka and Vietnam with the aim of establishing a connection between the countries.
Divided into three successive parts, the final thematic chapter of the exhibition titled, ‘Who Cares about the Future,’ is currently on display. This installment features Chinese artist Zhang Ding, who is known for his intimate performance pieces, exploring the sense of alienation from contemporary society.
The previous stages are available as an archive in the ‘Reading Room’ of the exhibition. ‘New Town Ghosts,’ the first chapter, looked at artists investigating their own city. Movement No.2, the second chapter, saw MadeIn Company Ltd, invite visitors to partake in a 30-minute fitness routine within the gallery space.
Moving on Asia: Towards a New Art Network is on display until Monday 3 June at City Gallery Wellington, New Zealand.
