Ryoji Ikeda: Test Pattern
Acclaimed Japanese electronic composer and audio‐visual artist, Ryoji Ikeda, will premiere his latest large-scale installation, ‘Test Pattern [N°5],’ in Sydney, Australia.
‘Test Pattern [N°5],’ is an audio-visual installation that converts data (text, sounds, photos and movies) into barcode patterns. The work creates an immersive experience of flickering black and white imagery and sounds that push the threshold of human perception.
Ikeda was born in Japan and lives and works in Paris. He uses scale, light, shade, volume, electric sounds and rhythm to flood the senses. In choreographing vast amounts of digital information, the artist creates a transformative environment that visitors view on a scale that defies comprehension, experiencing the infinite.
‘Test Pattern [N°5]’ will be on display at CarriageWorks, Sydney from Saturday 8 June until Monday 1 July. In addition to ‘Test Pattern [N°5]’ Carriageworks and ISEA2013 will present a one-night only, free concert by Ikeda on Friday 7 June 2013.
