PHotoespaña
The 2013 edition of PHotoEspaña, titled ‘Body. Eros and Politics’ unites a series of photographic exhibitions around Madrid, Spain. The Festival focuses on how photography is used to explore the diversity of the human body.
It has been argued that photography emerged from a passion for the sexuality that is expressed in the nude. PHotoEspaña delves this year into themes of eroticism and the body. The body and its images have been instrument in fights for gender liberation and vindication, sexual orientation and the battle against discrimination. The Festival also focuses on other body politics as well as the artistic practice in which the body is a cultural ground.
The XVI edition of the Festival presents exhibitions by over 300 artists from 42 different countries. The Festival has also expanded beyond Spain to run exhibitions that will tour Prague, Berlin and Paris.
Key events of PHotoEspaña include:
– ‘Body Structures’: Zbiniew DIubak. The modernist perspective of the feminine nude by one of the most important figures in Polish photography, this exhibition comprises his initial work and some of his conceptual pieces. DIubak‘s work is on display at the Circle of Fine Arts.
