100% Design: Taipei Pavilion
The modern city of Taipei will bring the creativity and innovation of its emerging designers for 100% Design London for the first time.
Showing a different side to the country and its association with ‘Made in Taiwan’ manufacturing, the Pavilion will reflect the innovative thinking of the city’s contemporary designers. The theme for the Pavilion this year is Adaptive City and will explore ideas of social and sustainable design.
A selection of the designers exhibiting include:
– Qisdesign: Presenting ‘Aurelia, the Moon Jellyfish’, a table lamp based on the nautical creature, Qisdesign highlights that LED lighting can be used to tranquil effect.
– Jacky Wu: Revisiting a material deemed useless, Wu has given a new purpose to discarded cracked wood. Coating the crack with lacquer, Wu allows the wood’s fault to become its feature for her object series titled ‘Crack’.
– Yujui Chou: Exploring the perishing bamboo manufacture industry, Chou aims to bring a new perspective to the traditional material in his ‘Bubble Chair’ design.
The Taipei Design Pavilion is on display as part of the International Pavilions series at 100% Design London, in partnership with the Taipei City Government, from Wednesday 18 – Saturday 21 September 2013.
