Esprit Dior: An Elegant Heritage
An exhibited titled ‘Esprit Dior’ captures the spirit of a visionary designer: Christian Dior. The exhibition brings the heritage of the French House to Shanghai, China.
A retrospective of Christian Dior’s impact and legacy, the exhibition highlights the key themes explored throughout the history of the House. Nature is particularly iconic to the House, with Christian Dior known to have frequently compared the beauty of a woman to the beauty of a flower. The exhibition also highlights the significance of the shade red, launched in 1949, the ‘Dior red’ became a fashion classic.
The exhibition includes a selection of multimedia, haute couture dresses, jewellery, original drawings and an installation that provides an insight into Dior’s haute couture ateliers. Perfume is represented throughout the exhibition, as Dior himself saw fragrance as “the finishing touch to a dress.” Eight emerging Chinese artists have also been invited to create a tribute to Christian Dior for the exhibition.
‘Esprit Dior’ is on display at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai until Sunday 10 November, 2013.
