Maison Martin Margiela and Baptiste Debombourg
Baptiste Debombourg has transformed Maison Martin Margiela’s Grenelle, Paris Boutique by recreating his famous ‘Turbo’ installation.
Debombourg’s practice focuses on materials such as wood and glass, which he then deconstructs to question the everyday. His 2009 piece ‘Turbo’ was inspired by the turbo wave of the 1980s, challenging the notion of masculine power. Customised to fit within the Maison Martin Margiela boutique, it brings a new context to the crumbling exploded wall.
The installation was created for Parcours Saint-Germain in partnership with FIAC, an event that aims to foster the creative culture of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés disctrict of Paris. Works are installed throughout cafés, shop windows and the urban environment, instilling the area with contemporary art and allowing individuals to encounter art throughout the neighbourhood.
Debombourg’s piece is on display at the Maison Martin Margiela boutique until Saturday 26 October 2013.
