Bob Dylan: Mood Swings
Renowned musician Bob Dylan expresses his diversity with an artistic project that has the same pensiveness as his lyrics.
In an exhibition titled ‘Mood Swings’, Dylan will present a series of gates that have been welded from vintage iron and metal. The unique pieces are the outcome of the artist’s lifelong fascination with welding and metalwork. The gates are imbued with the stories brought to them by objects from which they are created.
Dylan is fascinated by the enclosing notion of gates and their ability to make use of negative space. “They can be closed but at the same time they allow the seasons and breezes to enter and flow. They can shut you out or shut you in. And in some ways there is no difference,” he said.
‘Mood Swings’ elicits thought in the same way as the poetic nature of his song lyrics, a reflective and sometimes philosophical look at society.
‘Mood Swings’ is part of Dylan’s ongoing ventures into visual art. He has previously exhibited a series of paintings in Germany and Denmark. The exhibition takes place from Saturday 16 November 2013 and runs until Saturday 25 January 2014 at Halcyon Gallery, London.
