M.I.A.’s New Ventures
M.I.A’s latest ventures see her take on fashion and the release of a new album.
The extensive projects have seen her collaborate with Versus Versace on a capsule collection and work with producers from around the globe on the release of her fourth album titled Matangi.
M.I.A drew on the experiences of her youth, to create a collection that is inspired by Versace counterfeit items. Reflecting on the counterfeit items she saw scattered for sale through the markets of London, M.I.A. brought these memories to the collection. The result is a self-reflexive approach to design, inspired by copies of Versace’s own motifs and styles.
Her latest album, Matangi was an equally immersive project, bringing on board a selection of producers including Surkin, Switch, Danja, Hitboy, Partysquad, Doc McKinney and M.I.A. herself. Not limited to one location the album was recorded in New York, Los Angeles, London and others spots around the globe.
M.I.A. released the lead single ‘Bad Girls’ in 2012, for which the video was nominated for both a Grammy and MTV Video Music Award. Earlier in 2013 ‘Bring The Noize’ was released and set the stage for M.I.A.’s performance at the Pitchfork Music Festival. Both ‘Bad Girls’ and ‘Bring The Noize’ will be featured on Matangi.
Matangi will be released globally on Monday 4 November 2013.
