Y-3: Graphic Style

Yohji Yamamaoto presented his AW14 collection for Y-3, marking the first time he has shown Y-3 in Paris.

The bold and graphic collection merges street wear and structure, expressing Yamamoto’s desire to create styles of clothes that superheroes would wear. Relaxed cut trousers were paired with hooded jackets, loose capes and sneakers, creating outfits designed for mobility. Continuing references to superheroes, graphic elements from comic books were subtly applied to jackets and pants, with fluorescent trimming adding vibrancy.

The iconic adidas black and white stripes were used as a design element on both the garments and the show’s runway design. The use of stripes experimented with the adidas branding and the ongoing influence of the brand.

Y-3 is a collaboration between adidas and Yohji Yamamoto that was formed in 2003.
