MM6 Maison Martin Margiela AW14
Maison Martin Margiela presented their MM6 AW14 collection at New York Fashion Week.
A largely monochrome palette referenced the aesthetic that the Margiela brand is renowned for, with a bold application of orange, which brought diversity to the collection. Orange was applied to the lining of jackets, chunky knitwear and dresses, as the feature shade of the collection.
The collection evoked a subtle futuristic aesthetic, seen through the choice of materials. Bubble wrap formed the sleeves of dresses and was also used to form complete garment. A metallic orange jacket, pants and pair of shorts were presented in cuts that evoked the clothing of a tradesman. Garments were complemented by accessories including black leather riding boots and leather fingerless gloves.
The presentation was accompanied by a live performance from Montreal based singer-songwriter Sean Nicholas Savage. To conclude the show the models formed a circle around Savage remaining static as he performed before filing slowly off the stage.
