Paris Fashion Week AW14/15: Day Three
Balenciaga and Rick Owens presented their AW14/15 collections at Paris Fashion Week.
Alexander Wang’s third season as Creative Director of Balenciaga has seen a confident style arise, and his own take on the Balenciaga brand shine. The focus for Balenciaga’s AW14/15 collection was in the detail. Zips were used to create detailing on the shoulders, sides of dresses and one garment showed the detailed applied to the front of a dress in a cross. Bags were carried in bunches of three, grasped in the same way one would carry their shopping bags.
The AW14/15 collection from Balenciaga also saw more colour applied than Wang’s previous collections for the brand. Bright and voluminous knitted jackets were pinched at the waistline while dresses were striped in red and blue. A series of vibrant rain parkas brought a youthful touch to the collection and were worn with gloves in primary shades of blue and yellow.
Rick Owens’ AW14/15 collection was a gentler presentation than his SS14 at Paris Fashion Week, yet was still instilled with messages to the fashion world. Owens’ once again cast models that were not traditionally familiar with the role.
The Ready to Wear collection drew ties to Owen’s AW14/15 menswear presentation, with similar shapes evoking the notion of unisex attire. The collection featured the harsh lines and dark palette that the designer is known for, with garments limited to black, grey and a deep burgundy. Keeping the audience on their toes, Owens repeated some of his key outfits, interspersing them with unseen ones.
