White Night Melbourne 2014
After a successful debut in 2013 White Night will return to Melbourne, Australia taking over the city for 12 hours.
The first event of its kind in Australia, White Night Melbourne is inspired by the global Nuit Blanche network. Showcasing Melbourne’s music, art, theatre, sport, fashion, film, design and performance, the event will expand significantly on the 2013 format to include 11 precincts across the city.
Various light based installations will transform sections of the city, utilising projections and sound to create an altered landscape. One key installation will be that of French artist Pierre Ardouvin. His piece ‘Purple Rain’ was originally installed at the Paris Nuit Blanche, referencing the spirit of artist Prince’s song of the same title. Other highlights from White Night Melbourne will include:
Fractured
Known for his ambitious works that involve dissecting objects and spaces with cuts artist Robbie Rowlands will present a new work titled Fractured.
Tattooed City
Melbourne based photographer Nicole Reed has captured intimate portraits of Melbourne’s tattooed citizens. Projected onto the external walls of the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), the work highlights ties between tattoo and street art, using the body as a canvas.
You are Allowing This to Happen
Melbourne artist Rowan Williams will present a series of large-scale paste-ups, exploring the growth of this form of street art.
Gallery Spaces
Both the NGV International and NGV Australia will remain open for the night, providing visitors with access to free and ticketed events, including Melbourne Now.
White Night Melbourne will run from 7pm Saturday 22 to 7am Sunday 23 February 2014. Connect with fluoro to stay informed directly from the event via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram (@fluoro_Official).
