SupperScene
A theatrical dining event will fill the windows of Spazio Pontaccio on the opening night of Salone Internazionale del Mobile, celebrating the intrinsic relationship between design and how we engage with food.
The event, titled SupperScene, will bring together limited-edition tableware, furniture and accessories, and 50 guests drawn from the international design stage to share a dinner prepared by Michelin-starred chef Matias Perdomo. fluoro spoke to Uruguayan-born Perdomo about the role of design innovation in dining.
Perdomo is known for his revolutionary approach to food and the unique creations he serves at the Milanese restaurant Pont de Ferr. For Perdomo, design plays a key role in the creation of his dishes. “Design itself is the source of inspiration that links, connects and nourishes flavours, colours, fragrances and the memory of taste,” Perdomo said.
SupperScene focuses on the sensory experience of dining through combining food with beautiful objects. Perdomo’s view compliments the notion of dining as an experience beyond taste. He shared that he sees “guests of the Pont de Ferr enter a parallel world where freedom of expression, taste and their preferences become our recipe and a manual for us to guide them through their personal sensorial experience.” For his menu at SupperScene he hopes to convey the deep, infinite and indestructible link between everyday life, food and design to his guests.
Guests will be presented with Perdomo’s dishes on plates designed by Federico Pepe, accompanied by specially commissioned glasses created by designer Lee Broom and gold cutlery designed by Alessandro Zambelli for Seletti. The dinner will be able to be viewed by the public through the windows of the showroom during the evening.
SupperScene will take place on Tuesday 8 April 2014. After the dinner, the dining table will be recreated and will remain on view until the completion of Salone Internazionale del Mobile on Sunday 13 April 2014.
